One Man’s Story after Suffering a Serious Head Injury
When he was 12 years old, he was hit in the back of my head and suffered a serious head injury. One day later on in his life, he went to read the newspaper but couldn’t read it. Feeling frustrated, he concentrated harder by forcing-reading it until literally the front of his head hurt.
A couple of weeks later, he started feeling extremely fatigued that only seemed to get worse each passing day. A few weeks passed when he started forgetting the names of people he known for over 5 years and beyond. In fact, he couldn’t remember too much of anything as days went by.
How Brain Swelling Occurs after a Serious Head Injury
Here’s what the guy’s brain was going through. The size of the brain increases after a serious head injury in most cases. This resulted into changes occurring in his brain due to an increase of blood flowing to the brain. To better understand what happens to the brain during swelling, here are a couple of pointers:
- The Brain Rest Inside a Bone Case – Under normal conditions, the brain fits quite well. However, head trauma is experienced when the brain swells. This is in part because the brain doesn’t have room to expand inside this bone case.
- The Brain Needs Oxygen – The more damage the brain experiences, the more oxygen it needs to function. This results to eventual brain swelling caused by leakage from blood vessels.
